Magic, a word used to describe all the special abilities that people can use or unexplainable things that happen.
Magic has been around since the start of life on Shinseina itself, a gift to the inhabitants of the world granted by the Gods. It is believed that it all started when Kami created the island of Eden a place where all flora is said to exist, and on that island, was a Tree said to have been planted by the Gods themselves, infused with the very being of mana.
This tree grew a fruit, the exact look of the fruit is said to not exist, simply taking the form of whatever the host wanted to see. This fruit is said to be the origin of all magic that people can use, being infused with the very being of mana in it, the purest of mana; granting whoever ate it the ability of magic.
People gathered at this tree and ate the fruits, granting them the ability of magic, which they passed on through birth for generations after generations. This was how magic spread throughout the world over time, becoming a part of everyday normality.
The magic of the current age is nothing compared to magic from the past, called ancient magic. Ancient magic is said to be extremely powerful, undoable with the current levels of magic, it was not as simple as magic today. It was complicated to cast, often requiring runic symbols and magical codes. It is believed that due to the flow of magic getting diluted as people gave birth for generations, this made the powerful magic of old times change, becoming weaker yet less complicated.
Development of Magic
With that said, in this world, there are many types of magical abilities that are possessed by people, and many ways to acquire these abilities.
The most common way to gain magical abilities is through birth, as magic is believed to pass down through the bloodline very often. Often hereditary, one can be born with an ability related to their parents, either a combination of both parents' magic or a single one. In some cases, the child can even develop a unique ability altogether, one they would need to learn to control.
Magic abilities can be learned. While hard and takes years of training and sometimes even money, not to mention the talent itself to learn magic, people can learn it with these requirements met. Magic that is learned rather than birth with is often different, sometimes less powerful, or more complicated. However, don't let that belief fool you, magic that is learned is very versatile, with many ways that it can be used.
Magic abilities can also be gifted. While extremely rare, occasions have occurred where powerful beings have gifted abilities to people or enhance existing ones. Magical abilities gained this way are often more powerful than ones born with, however, due to the body being unstable with new magic, it often takes time to learn and master. Some unlucky ones can even die from the process.
Mana
Almost all forms of magic out there, or at the very least most forms, require the very essence of magic known as Mana. Mana is the pure form of magic, a type of energy of sorts, produced by almost everything in the world, yet it normally does not retain a form, some dense mana can become visible, but it needs to be densely condensed.
The world itself is overflowing and infused with mana be it plants, animals, the lands and seas, even people; a lot of things around the world have mana within them, have the ability to absorb mana within them, or even have the ability to generate mana.
Mana is one of the driving factors of how powerful most magic can be, as the more mana used to cast magic, the more powerful that magic can become. Mana is the building block of all magic in the world.
