The Beast That Roam

Faunas walk the land just as much as people do, and some are even older.

The world of Shinseina is not just home to people. It teems with life in all forms, creatures, beasts, monsters, and magical anomalies that fall under a broad category known as Fauna. This term is used by scholars, adventurers, and locals alike to describe the living beings that roam the world, both mundane and extraordinary.

Nearly every creature in the world is tied to magic in some way. Whether they are born from magic, possess inherent magical abilities, or descend from magical ancestors, the creatures of Shinseina are rarely ordinary. This connection to mana is often what makes them not only fascinating but also dangerous. It’s what keeps many species alive, evolving, or hostile, and it’s what draws hunters, researchers, and wanderers into the wilds.

To help identify and catalog these beings, a standardized classification is often used. Each entry includes a few key identifiers.

Every creature is named, though many have multiple known titles depending on the region or tales they originate from. Their abilities are briefly listed, though it's understood that not all talents may be known or documented. Some creatures may exhibit powers far beyond those initially observed.

The danger ranking system runs from F to SS, with F and E-ranked creatures considered manageable for solo fighters, albeit potentially troublesome for the untrained. D and C ranks are threats that typically require small, skilled groups to defeat. B ranks become notably dangerous, often needing large groups to handle their aggression or sheer power. A ranks escalate beyond that, demanding countless trained combatants due to their destructive potential. S rank beasts are near-apocalyptic in threat level, often needing over eighty elite warriors to stand a chance. SS-ranked creatures are legendary beings, considered impossible to face in direct combat. At that point, the best option is to run or hide.

Rarity adds another layer of danger and intrigue. Common creatures are frequently encountered across various biomes. Uncommon ones require effort and exploration to locate. Rare creatures are elusive and often go unspotted even after days of searching. Rare+ beings are nearly myth, said to exist but seldom proven. The pinnacle of rarity is Legendary, which refers to creatures seen only once in a generation, if at all. Some faunas transcend this entirely. These are labeled ‘One of a Kind’, truly unique beings, often tied to world lore or singular events.

Each fauna is also listed with its region, the habitat where it naturally dwells. This could range from mountain ranges and deep forests to magical realms or corrupted wastelands. And finally, a description offers all known details about the creature, including its appearance, temperament, habits, and anything survivors have reported.
