Core Refinement Methods are a method of self-enhancement that utilizes Monster Cores as catalysts to develop physical, magical, and even spiritual capabilities. Unlike spellcasting or martial arts, which demand active control over mana or the body, Core Refinement draws upon the latent essence within these cores, shaping it through a structured training process to produce long-term growth.

While many view Monster Cores as consumables for temporary boosts, true refinement is far more deliberate. It is not a mere act of ingestion; it is a practiced discipline, involving ritual-like extraction, personalized absorption methods, and branching developmental pathways. Each refinement is a decision point, guiding the practitioner’s evolution in unique and lasting ways.

This technique originated when the hidden potential within Monster Cores was first realized, concentrated mana, traits, and instincts of the beasts they came from. Over time, scholars, magicians, and so on developed formal methods to extract more than just power from cores; they discovered ways to align one’s own growth with the creatures’ essence. These methods eventually crystallized into what is now known as Core Refinement Methods, a newly popularized discipline that is rapidly spreading across the land.

The process unfolds in several carefully defined stages:

​

• Core Extraction begins the refinement. The core must be prepared through specific techniques to awaken its energy without destabilizing it.

• Core Absorption follows, in which the refined core is integrated into the practitioner’s body, creating the first node, a central point from which all future refinement pathways branch.

• Path Selection marks the next phase. At particular milestones, the user may choose how their refinement evolves. Some methods offer multiple paths, while others lock the practitioner into singular, specialized trajectories.

• Advanced Growth is the culmination of long-term refinement. Through dedicated training and high-quality cores, users may unlock rare abilities, trigger awakenings, or shift into higher-tier refinement techniques that reshape their entire approach.

The power and potential of refinement methods are divided into distinct ranks:

• D-Rank Methods offer basic enhancement. These are widely accessible, ideal for beginners, and allow flexible branching across multiple growth types.

• C-Rank Methods provide moderate boosts and clearer pathways, ideal for those with a solid foundation. However, certain paths may impose restrictions, limiting future adaptability.

• B-Rank Methods mark the beginning of specialization. These methods grant unique traits or abilities and often reflect the core’s origin more strongly. They are typically more difficult to acquire and control.

• A-Rank Methods grant powerful enhancements and refined traits but demand discipline. These methods usually prevent the user from developing multiple same-tier paths, locking them into focused refinement.

• S-Rank Methods are the peak of refinement potential. Infused with overwhelming power, they offer immense benefits but are dangerously unstable if mishandled. Nearly all S-Rank paths are exclusive; only one can be followed unless stated otherwise.

Despite the strength and flexibility of Core Refinement Training, it is not without its limits:

• Compatibility between the user and the core is vital. A mismatch can cause rejection, injury, or complete failure.

• Core Quality matters. A poorly refined or damaged core may taint the pathway or collapse it entirely.

• Time Investment is significant. Even lower-ranked methods take dedication, while advanced refinements may span years of focused training.

• Over-specialization is a double-edged sword. Deep investment into one path can yield great power, but often at the cost of versatility or resistance to counters.
